Puffed quinoa – what is that?

Quinoa is a very old crop and is a pseudo-cereal, just like amaranth. It has been grown for over 5000 years in the heights of the Andes and is a staple food over there. After arriving in South America, Spanish colonialists considered the "Inka wheat" as food for the lower classes, which is why it only rose to fame in Europe over the past few decades. Puffed quinoa could be considered the popcorn of the Incas. It is made with a lot of pressure and heat. This version of the gran is airy and light and is a great as a topping or as a base for sweet dishes.

Recipe for quinoa pops

Puffed quinoa is a dream ingredient for all those with a sweet tooth. How about a nut and seed treat with quinoa? Make our nut clusters! Or some protein, with our crispy soy bites? You can also use the quinoa as a fluffy topping on your açaí smoothie bowl. We also like to use the quinoa as an ingredient in our treats, for example in our organic whole grain rice cakes with 7 seeds

White quinoa

Nowadays, white quinoa is the most common variety. Thanks to its gentle nutty taste, this grain can be combined with both savoury and sweet dishes.

In 2018, more than 250,000 tons of quinoa were produced worldwide, and the market for quinoa is constantly growing. 95% of global production comes from Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. The quinoa grain originates from the Andes, and it was a staple food of the Incas. Quinoa belongs to the Amaranthaceae family and is therefore gluten-free. Moreover, this pseudo grain is rich in protein, as well as unsaturated fatty acids and minerals.

Just like amaranth, quinoa is grown exclusively in Central and South America. There it is a very old crop. More than 95% of world production comes from Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.
Quinoa belongs to the group of so-called "pseudocereals" and is therefore naturally gluten-free. However, since quinoa comes into contact with machines that process other gluten-containing foods during the manufacturing process, it may contain traces of gluten.
Quinoa has a nutty, mild flavor that is particularly versatile in sweet dishes.
We have many recipes with puffed quinoa for you on our site. Just click on 'blog posts' in the tab and browse through a number of delicious ideas: There are for example our Nutclusters, or the Soy Crispy Bites. Of course, you can also use quinoa as a crunchy light topping on your smoothie bowl with acai or Porridge. We have also used the grain, for example, as an ingredient in our organic whole rice cakes with 7 seeds.
White quinoa is the most common and is usually cheaper than other varieties. The taste is slightly nutty. Red quinoa tastes quite similar, but is a bit firmer to the bite and has a minimally longer cooking time. Red quinoa, similar to the black version, also takes a bit longer to cook. Because it holds its shape and looks pretty, you're best off using it as a highlight for salads. Puffed quinoa is also known as the popcorn of the Incas and looks great in your breakfast.
A healthy lifestyle focuses on a balanced and varied diet. Our Quinoa Pops score especially as a delicious, light and airy topping on your yogurt and can also be used, for example, as a substitute for conventional, usually additionally sweetened granola.
Quinoa is a very old crop and a pseudocereal. The plant has been cultivated in the highlands of the Andes for more than 5,000 years and is considered a staple food there. Puffed quinoa is virtually the 'popcorn of the Incas' and is created under a lot of pressure and heat. The puffed version of the grain is light and airy and therefore great as a topping and in (sweet) recipes.
Our puffed quinoa comes per 100 g to 369 calories. All nutrients can of course also be found in the nutritional table next to or below the product description.

Ideal addition for breakfast.

600g. That's what I thought. When the pack arrived I was surprised! It's huge!!! Still a bit more expensive than at dm. But delicious and less packaging. I just thought they were crunchier. But probably my mistake 😅

Price/performance

I bought this to make my snacks again. The packaging we get in the shops is too small and therefore too expensive. The quality looks good at first glance.

What a pleasure.

Quinoa that tastes like something. The "popcorn" variant is the ideal addition to turn simple oatmeal into a breakfast with a pep and crunch, for example.

À acheter absolument 👍🏻

Very good quality, I tested it making chocolate galettes, it was very good and crispy. As for the price, it's really very affordable for the quantity in the pack.
