Plantain chips always have sugar? False! We do not add sugar or other flavour enhancers to this popular snack, as we think it is perfect and delicious just the way it is. One of Europe's favourite fruits, bananas are second only to apples. Thanks to the natural sugar in the plantains (12g /100g), our dried banana chips are lightly sweet, and they are baked in coconut oil, which gives them pleasant and characteristic coconut aroma – yum!

Sugar-free plantain chips are not sweet

We do not use sugar* as an ingredient, and the fact that we used plantains intead of regular bananas means the chips are only very lightly sweet. If you are looking for a sweeter banana snack, you can try our dried banana strips, or you can sweeten these sugar-free chips yourself, for example with maple or agave syrup.

How to use plantain chips

Our dried plantain chips are the ideal snack for the little afternoon hunger, as an extra ingredient in your muesli or porridge, or as a topping for various desserts. Also suitable for decorating cakes or banana bread, you can also crush the chips and add them to the bottom of your cheesecake!

*The plantain chips contain naturally occurring fructose (15 g/100 g).

Climate impact

At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.

CO₂ emissions by product

To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.

CO₂ emission per product in comparison

Would you like to find out how well your favourite snack stacks up against other products in terms of carbon footprint? Say no more! To create comparability, we calculated the CO₂ emissions per 1 kg of our products and compared them with other products that end up on many people's plates every day, such as cheese, tofu, and many more. We also included coffee as a drink for comparison. So no matter if it is your favourite snack or your go-to kitchen product, you are now able to see exactly how it performs in our “CO₂ per kg of product” ranking.

Comparison of CO₂ emissions per product in kg

Disclaimer: Different methods (comparison products) - The CO2 emissions of the non-KoRo products come from a different data source. Therefore, there may be differences between their evaluation method and the evaluation of KoRo products.

Dried banana stripes

Dried banana stripes come from ripe bananas, and are about 10 cm long

Bananas grow in the tropical and subtropical regions near the Equator which are often referred to as The Banana Belt. This is located between the 38th degree north and the 28th degree south latitude, and offers ideal growing conditions. In 2018, almost 116 million tons of bananas were grown worldwide. The world's largest producer is India with 30.9 million tons.

Not so sweet alternative

Unsweetened banana chips, nice crunchy, long MHD If you have already nibbled the puffed mango or puffed pineapple, you have with the unsweetened banana chips a nice counterpoint. Delicious

Sorry, not possible

Cardboard is definitely better in terms of taste. I am really mega disappointed. My relatives have also tried and spat out. Unfortunately, the description is very misleading so that I was only aware by the reviews here that it is about plantains. But even these I know - at least fresh - with better taste. Here should really be revised the description. You have to look quite carefully to find in the description that it is plantains.

So I eat it with yogurt so I can't taste anything because they are also not sugared but they are not as hard as elsewhere.

They are best when they are crispy. Unfortunately, the crispiness varies depending on the pack.

not too sweet, perfect for muesli

Delicious for muesli, for snacking they are a little too sweet for me (but healthier as there is no added sugar)

Floury

Anyone expecting crispy plantain chips will unfortunately not get the right product here. The plantain chips were not crispy and crunchy, as you would expect, but mealy and somehow unpleasant in the mouth. You can also really taste the coconut oil.

Certainly better than potato chips or the like.

Something different, but it takes some getting used to because the sugar is missing, but that's more because you usually eat too much sweet food.

Which ones with sugar would be better
