What looks confusingly similar to black sesame seeds, but is completely different in taste? Guess again: our organic black cumin seeds! But what are they? The black seeds are a spice that originated in Western Asia. In countries like Turkey, Egypt and Iraq, black cumin is therefore used in many different traditional dishes. And also as a medicinal plant, some positive properties are attributed to the plant. For centuries, many peoples have relied on its healing properties for hair, skin and intestines, as well as its possible positive influence on health. Yet the plant is hardly a thing of the past! Thanks to its deliciously nutty and somewhat pungent aroma, black cumin is now celebrated as a real trendy spice! You too can spice up your kitchen - buy our organic black cumin seeds now!

Black cumin equals cumin - is that true?

Here, too, confusion can easily arise: Although the two plants have very similar names, that is where the similarities end. Black cumin is a buttercup plant with a beautiful, light blue flower containing black seeds. Cumin belongs to the umbelliferae and looks herbaceous. Its seeds are brownish-green. And when it comes to taste, at the latest, the difference becomes even clearer: while the seeds of black cumin taste nutty and somewhat reminiscent of pepper, the latter are characterised by their very intense, bitter and pungent aroma. So don't worry if you're not the biggest cumin fan - black cumin seeds are certainly something for you anyway!

Recipes with black cumin seeds

Wondering how best to use and eat black cumin in the kitchen? Bake, pita bread, some rolls or quinoa hemp crackers and give the baked goods a special nutty-spiced flavour with the seeds. As black cumin originates from West Asia, it is not surprising that the spice fits wonderfully into many different oriental dishes. Our Arabic lentil salad, a ginger and lentil soup or some bake carrots with hummus are quick and easy to make and go perfectly with some black cumin. We recommend roasting the black cumin seeds in a pan before using them – this gives them an even stronger aroma! The little seeds are a great secret ingredient, to give your lunch bowl an unusual aromatic note. If you are a fan of black cumin, you should also try our black cumin oil, which is great in soups, with bread and on salads.

A must-have in every Mediterranean kitchen

I use the caraway very much for cooking in almost all dishes but also for baking. They give a very good taste for those who like it :-)
Because of the good quality, large quantities and therefore less packaging and the prices I order especially nuts and seeds exclusively from Koro.

Would not buy again.

Here the plastic taste and smell is the greatest. Had other black cumin seeds there, and the direct comparison is clear.

it widens my range of SEEDS to consume

It is part of my 'PICADA' of seeds. It has a 'particular' smell, but the flavor it brings you get to like it (I appreciate its properties, among which it is known to be a good antiviral). Fair price (and ORGANIC - you get used to it with KORO).

Highly recommended in combination with black sesame seeds

The black cumin should be used together with black sesame seeds for baked potatoes and flatbreads/baguettes. However, it also goes very well in rice dishes and gives them a great oriental flavor.
