All about sprouted muesli
Muesli comes in all shapes and sizes and contains different ingredients depending on your preferences. For the most part, it consists of various mixed cereals such as oat flakes or buckwheat flakes.
Who invented muesli?
The original muesli was developed in 1890 by nutritional reformer Dr. Maximilian Oskar Bircher-Benner and was initially called apple diet. His intention was to introduce people to a wholefood diet with fresh fruit.
Bircher-Benner found the inspiration for this on a hike in the Alps, where a dairymaid offered him a dish similar to muesli. Over time, this dish has become the well-known Bircher muesli and can be easily made from a variety of ingredients.
What is sprouted muesli?
In a sprouted muesli, all the grains (e.g. seeds, flakes) are usually sprouted. The seeds are soaked in water for a long time to initiate the germination process.
What happens during germination?
After the seed has soaked up water, the germination metabolism is stimulated. Enzyme inhibitors dissolve in the grain and important enzymes can become active. These convert chemical compounds, such as complex food components that our body processes poorly, into easily consumable compounds. The seeds are then dried to stop the germination process. The length of soaking varies depending on the grain.
It is important to know that not all the ingredients in a sprouted muesli are always sprouted, but sometimes only one ingredient. A glance at the ingredients list will usually tell you more.
What are the benefits of sprouted muesli?
Many different benefits of sprouted muesli are reported on the internet. Ultimately, however, these have neither been sufficiently scientifically tested nor are they admissible. For this reason, and because we only want to provide you with reliable facts, we will not advertise any half-truths here. All we can say is that our muesli is damn tasty, tastes pleasantly sweet and has the potential to give you the perfect start to the day.
What do you eat muesli with?
How you prepare your muesli is completely up to you. You can choose your favorite ingredients and fill your own muesli in a large preserving jar, for example. Whether it's chocolate drops, coconut chips or almond butter as a creamy topping - the choice is yours. You can also warm your muesli in a pot, especially when it's cold outside . For a quick option, you can leave your muesli to soak overnight and eat it as overnight oats.
