Peanuts: much sought-after and incredibly addictive
Peanuts are not just an all time favourite TV show, they are also irreplaceable in the kitchen. They can be snacked on pure, added to your vegetable coconut curry or spring rolls, thrown in the blender to make a fine peanut butter or simply be used as a topping for your banana, peanut and coffee bowl or porridge. Why is the peanut called peanut?
Botanically speaking, peanuts are not even considered nuts, but legumes. The peanut was originally called "ground nut" or ground pea" because it develops under the ground. The English even nicknamed them "monkey nuts", because monkeys in the zoo would eat them by the cartful. Eventually, the name peanut settled, simply because the size of a peanut is close to pea size. When peanuts are harvested, they are taken out of the ground and dried. We removed the shell and skin and they are ready for you to order them!
