Vegan filled gingerbread
We've made our brown gingerbread even more beautiful for the festivities, by filling it with fruity-red sour cherry jam and covering it in crunchy dark chocolate! Our fruity-chocolatey recipe is vegan, so all Christmas elves can snack along. Because we only want the best for you, all the ingredients are also organic. If that doesn't sound like Christmas!
Types of gingerbread: from the gingerbread man to "pepper cake" and Nuremberg gingerbread
Gingerbread is not gingerbread. Especially in Germany, there are many types of gingerbread which can differ in flavour, size, colour and texture. Even the names differ: in Eastern Germany, the treat is called "pepper cake". But the flavour is also very different. The two main types are brown gingerbread and round gingerbread. The brown version is made from a kneadable dough with a relatively high flour content. Since brown gingerbread is easier to mold, this includes most of the shaped gingerbreads such as gingerbread men, gingerbread houses and our new gingerbread hearts. Round gingerbread has a somewhat softer texture, because it is made with low or no flour.

Wir reden bei unseren Lebkuchenherzen natürlich nicht von den klassischen Oktoberfest-Herzen. Trotzdem sollte an dieser Stelle erwähnt werden, dass der Teig meist sehr ähnlich ist. Nur wie sind Lebkuchenherzen überhaupt auf der Wiesn gelandet? Das ist dem Münchner Bäcker und Schausteller Gustav Tschernich zu verdanken. Er ärgerte sich über die Zerbrechlichkeit der damals verkauften Schokoladenherzen. Eine neue Grundlage musste her – und was eignet sich da besser als Lebkuchenteig?! Zusammen mit einem flotten Spruch und süßen Verzierungen aus Zuckerguss war das inoffizielle Wahrzeichen des Oktoberfests geboren!
Jetzt aber schnell zurück zu unseren Lebkuchen Christmas-Style! Wenn nach dem Lebkuchenherzen bestellen Dein Paket ankommt, ist nämlich schon eine ganze Menge davor passiert: Weil Weihnachten das Fest der Liebe ist, haben wir sie in Herz-Form gebracht und eine ziemlich leckere Kirschfüllung hineingefüllt. Dafür mischen wir die Zutaten nach alter Rezeptur zu einem Lagerteig und bringen sie danach in ihre süße Form. Ab in den Backofen!
Braun gebrannt und lecker duftend verlassen die Lebkuchenherzen die Röhre wieder. Dann kommt der spannendste Teil: Die Füllung wird in das Herz “geimpft”. Damit das glattläuft, übernimmt eine Maschine diesen kniffligen Part. Danach heißt es Auskühlen, bevor die Gebäcke mit Zartbitterschokolade ummantelt werden. Das ganze kommt uns jetzt schnell in die Tüte und dann ab in unser Lager – schließlich willst Du Lebkuchenherzen kaufen!
