Recipes for Christmas and beyond
Whether banana bread, pancakes or gingerbread – cinnamon is THE spice that can be used in all types of baked goods. It is beloved around Christmas, but just using it in that period of the year would almost be a crime! There is so much more you can do with this delicious spice. Do you like Oriental flavours? Use it to refine your hearty dishes like roasts or curries. And not to forget, the classic oat and cinnamon combination for a delicious morning apple and cinnamon porridge. Who could resist that?
The classics: cinnamon buns and gingerbread
Even though we just mentioned that cinnamon should not be reduced to its Christmas dishes, we can't help but pick up on the two best-known baked goods in which cinnamon unfolds its unique aroma: ginger bread and cinnamon starts taste amazing with the addition of cinnamon. Another star among the cinnamon pastries: the cinnamon buns. Fresh from the oven, our vegan cinnamon buns are guaranteed to blow you away – not literally, of course. This special ground spice is not only available in many recipes but also in our snack section: apple chips with cinnamon, almond butter with vanilla and cinnamon and cinnamon coated apple pieces are our personal favourites around Christmas time!
From the cinnamon tree to the ground spice
Where does the brownish, pleasantly sweet spice with which we so often refine our porridge actually come from? To make the cinnamon powder, cinnamon sticks, which are the rolled bark of cinnamon trees (part of the laurel family), are ground. So what is the cinnamon type "Cinnamomum Ceylanicum" all about? Cinnamomum Ceylanicum is a special type of cinnamon. Unlike cassia cinnamon, which comes from China, this variety cinnamon comes from Sri Lanka. Cassia cinnamon sticks are coarser and thicker, are also darker in colour, and have a more intense smell.

Climate impact
At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.
CO₂ emissions by product
To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.

CO₂ emission per product in comparison
Would you like to find out how well your favourite snack stacks up against other products in terms of carbon footprint? Say no more! To create comparability, we calculated the CO₂ emissions per 1 kg of our products and compared them with other products that end up on many people's plates every day, such as cheese, tofu, and many more. We also included coffee as a drink for comparison. So no matter if it is your favourite snack or your go-to kitchen product, you are now able to see exactly how it performs in our “CO₂ per kg of product” ranking.
Comparison of CO₂ emissions per product in kg
Disclaimer: Different methods (comparison products) - The CO2 emissions of the non-KoRo products come from a different data source. Therefore, there may be differences between their evaluation method and the evaluation of KoRo products.
Sweet dishes with sweet potatoes
Sweet potato dishes don't always have to be savory. The tuber is also suitable for sweet dishes such as cakes, pancakes or cookies.
What else you can do with rice pudding
Rice pudding is a true soul food - whether with warm cherries or with cinnamon and sugar. It reminds us of childhood and cold days. But rice pudding can do even more!
Apple rings
Not all apple rings are the same. You can buy them in soft or crunchy form, both sweetened and unsweetened. We introduce you to our apple rings and chips from your KoRo drugstore and show you how to make them yourself!
Varieties & origins
Ceylon
Made from the inner bark of the Cinnamomum verum tree, Ceylon is the original form of cinnamon. The thinner the rind, the finer and more aromatic the cinnamon taste, which is nobler, more aromatic and less pungent than that of the Cassia variety.
Cinnamon is a very old spice that originally came from Asia. Cinnamon trees are grown on plantations and harvested immediately after the rainy season, as the bark is then fresh and moist and can be easily peeled off. The quality of the cinnamon is based on the texture and color of its quills.
Production
